Stoppard essay now up. Had originally planned on a Blake piece, too, but probably won't be able to get it done before the week's out - sorry. Hope this offers something of interest, and/or some useful reminders. A fair amount of AO3/4 stuff here. Happy holidays....

I would absolutely love to see your Blake essay - it is exactly the ideas I am grappling with in my teaching of Blake on the AQA Lit B paper. I cannot fit Blake neatly into either pastoral or anti-pastoral, and am intrigued by the idea of supra-pastoral (how do you fit this into Gifford's conception of the post pastoral?). One of the reasons I love Blake is the fact that his very form - books of oppositions - forces you into veering away from neat compartmentalisations, and in his typically revolutionary and perceptive approach, does not allow himself to be neatly identified as either pastoral or anti-pastoral (interesting that Gifford goes for anti). However, a very bright student in my Year 13 class is determined to see him only as pastoral - in the complex sense, with social commentary stitched in - but I would like to offer the class a more nuanced, and less easy, interpretation. Your thoughts would greatly help me to cement my own!
