The Friendship Series
How to use and cite entries in the Friendship Series: The summaries and comments are mine. They have all been written to be informative and introductory, but they cannot, of course, avoid opinion and speculation. Feel free to make use of the material; any paraphrases or quotes from me should be attributed as follows:
Because all articles have been posted together, and thus have the same year of publication, each essay has been given a letter. So, the piece below is “(a) Friendship,” and would thus be cited with the year 2016a. The piece on maieutics is “(b) Maieutics,” would appear as 2016b. And so on.
The texts on which my commentaries are based are cited at the end of each piece. Where direct quotations have been used, you will be able to refer to the source text.
(a) On Friendship (Introduction)
(b) Maieutics
(c) Aristotle on Friendship
(d) Montaigne on Friendship
(e) Emerson on Friendship
- In essays: “[QUOTE]” (Belas 2016a).
- In bibliographies: Belas, O. (2016a). “On Friendship.” [address]. Accessed [date you read the article]
